Communities Plan Alternate Halloween Activities

With many Halloween celebrations canceled because of COVID-19 concerns, local organizations are developing substitutes.

The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce’s Fall Scarecrow Contest encourages Houghton and Keweenaw County residents to create scarecrows, and display them in front of their homes or businesses.

Once the scarecrow is in place, take a photo, and either submit it to the Keweenaw Chamber Facebook page, or tag the Chamber. Judging will take place October 30th at 5:00, and the winner will be announced on Halloween.

Main Street Calumet will replace Trunk or Treat with a Halloween SCARE-venger hunt on October 30th. Between 3:00 and 7:00, spooky and fun displays will be set up outdoors around downtown Calumet. Main Street Calumet’s Leah Polzien says it’s all a part of adjusting to the new normal…

“Lots of work going into holding events in a safe fashion, just re-thinking everything that you used to do in a new way.”

Participants will be able to claim a bag of candy by finding the list of items in town.
