Copper Country Relay For Life To Be An 8-Hour Event At McAfee Field

Changes are coming to this year’s Copper Country Relay for Life.

The Hancock City Council received an update from Mission Chair Beth Cook at their monthly meeting Wednesday.

The American Cancer Society fundraiser will be hosted by Finlandia University August 18th at McAfee Field in Hancock.

In prior years, the relay has been at the Houghton High School track and most recently at the Copper Country Mall.

Instead of a 24-hour marathon event, this year’s Relay will be only eight hours, starting on a Thursday at 4pm and ending at midnight.

Representatives from the Relay will be heading out to local businesses asking them to take part in their Paint Your World Purple awareness campaign.

The Hancock City Council agreed to allow purple ribbons to be put up on light poles throughout the city.

This year’s Relay for Life theme is “Game On for a Cure”.
