Donation to Flood Relief from Sewing Company

Flood victims in the local area are being helped out by a sewing company from Negaunee.

L to R is Pam Kauppila, Susan Liimatta, Joanne Markham and PHF director Kevin Store

Owner Pam Kaupplia of Time Flies Quilt and Sew and a group of quilters raised $2,615 to support the flood relief effort by the Portage Health Foundation.

The money was donated to the Flood With Love initiative through a silent auction initiative #quiltsforthecoppercountry held in Marquette County.

“This horrific event compelled me to action. We knew we wanted to donate a quilt to the Markham family,” said Pam Kauppila. “A call went out for donations of quilt tops, and we were able to get 10 quilts completed. 2 were donated to the Markham family and 8 were auctioned off on November 30. The quilts were on display at the UP Medical Center on Fair Ave in Marquette during the month of November. Bids came in from around the country, thanks to the power of social media. Thank you to everyone who participated.”

“It’s been amazing to see not only people’s generosity but also their creativity in how they raised monies,” said Chelsea Goodreau, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for PHF. “These ladies used their incredible talents to raise monies for a great cause and support the families who suffered incredible loss from the Father’s Day flood.”

A quilt was also donated to the Markham family created by Margaret Carnigan of Escanaba and quilted by Kauppila.

PHF greatly appreciates the hard work and generosity of the people and organizations locally and beyond who have invest so much into support the Flood with Love initiative. To learn more about PHF’s flood relief efforts visit phfgive.org.
