Door-To-Door Scam In Houghton County

Houghton County residents are being warned of a local door to door scam.

Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean says their department is investigating complaints of a white female suspect who has reportedly been going door to door asking for cash, checks or returnable cans and bottles, saying the money will be used for homeless youth through the Child Family Services of Marquette or the local Youth Advisory Council of Keweenaw and Houghton Counties.

McLean says they don’t know how many victims are out there at this time, but some of the solicitation was last weekend and perhaps even before that.

He added that they would like to track down all of the victims as they build their case.

Several victims’ checks have been recovered and the Sheriff is asking that anyone else that has been taken advantage of to please call the Sheriff’s Office at 906 482-0055.
