This year’s Friend of the Fair honor went to longtime volunteer and current Baraga County Commission Chair Gale Eilola. Eilola grew up on a farm near the fairgrounds in Pelkie…

And when I was seven and eight years old, I asked my parents, “well, can I bring my animal to the fair?” And the said, “well, no, you’re not nine years old, yet.” So, when I became nine, we brought my animal down here, we walked it from the farm all the way down, and that was my first year. And I have never missed this fair.
