Fond Farewell To Undersheriff Britz

Britz, Roy UndersheriffThe longest serving Undersheriff in Houghton County history is moving on.

 

An open house was held today to say farewell to Undersheriff Roy Britz, who served in the position for 20 years.

Britz was also a deputy for the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department from 1982 to 1989.

He has accepted the position of Deputy Chief of Michigan Tech’s Police and Public Services.

 

Houghton County Undersheriff Roy Britz said, “I’m at a point in my career where I thing change is important and Michigan Tech offers a great opportunity to continue my growth as a professional in law enforcement.”

Britz described his time at the department as exciting but challenging, adding that it is a fantastic place to work.

Britz said, “The staff here is a very good staff. They’re very diligent in their job and taking care of the public and I hope the public understands that these men and women here work hard for them and I miss them. I will miss, although I’m only just a couple of miles away, but still miss the guys and the camaraderie here and coming in daily and seeing them.”

Britz says he has no plans to run for Sheriff of Houghton County in the future.
