Gas Outage Could Be 3 Days–More Warming Centers Set Up

More information is now known concerning an accident this morning that has knocked out gas service to much of the L’Anse area.

The Baraga County Sheriff’s Office say a northbound vehicle ran off of US-41, west of L’Anse Avenue, around 3:45 Friday morning.

The vehicle struck a SEMCO gas line, which ignited the substation.

The L’Anse Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

SEMCO Gas Company says natural gas customers in the L’Anse area could be without gas for up to three days.

This affects roughly 1,200 gas customers.

A Warming Center is being setup in the Baraga Area School, Ojibwa College and the Big Bucks Bingo Hall.
