GeekU.P. With Black Ice Comics & The Voice Of Zelda

A local comic shop and a homegrown celebrity are teaming up for a fun-filled geektastic charity event.

Black Ice Comics of Houghton, MI, is hosting GeekU.P, a mini-con and charity event that will benefit the Copper Country Humane Society.  The event is taking place October 20th, 2018 and will be held at the Michigan Tech Memorial Union.

GeekU.P will celebrate art and geek culture (local and abroad) through comics, cosplay, video games, and more with special guest Patricia Summersett, the voice of Princess Zelda in the video game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Patricia Summersett was raised in L’anse, MI, and graduated from Houghton High school before pursuing her acting career in LA and Montreal. She has provided voice and motion capture for several video games including Zelda: Breath of the Wild (worldwide 2017 Game of the Year) Rainbow Six: Siege, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and the Assassin’s Creed Franchise.

Patricia is an invited guest/panelist at comic conventions around the globe and events such as South by Southwest. Some on
screen appearances include projects such as the Darren Aronofsky film Mother! starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, episodes of The Bold Type (ABC), Bellevue (CTV) and Helix (Netflix).

“I’m thrilled to celebrate local arts and culture in the community I grew up in,” states Patricia Summersett. “I certainly hope to inspire and provide insight for budding artists who may be thinking of a related career path. Shana Porteen and I dreamed up this event last Fall (the inaugural Art Heart Charity and mini con was wonderfully received last December). Less than one year later, the festival has evolved considerably and I’m excited to imagine how it may grow and expand in years to come!”

“We’re very excited to bring people together to share their passion for comics and gaming in support of the Copper Country Humane Society,” said Shana Porteen, owner of Black Ice Comics. “We want to welcome folks of all ages to GeekU.P.! Even if it’s been years since you read a comic, or you’ve never played a video game, we can’t wait to share the fun with everyone and raise money for a great organization.”

The GeekU.P. event will offer an opportunity to meet Patricia Summersett and purchase an autograph and selfie, partake in several panel discussions with invited guests, a Super Smash Brothers tournament, an Artist Alley, cosplay competition and several other activities.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at www.GeekUP906.com and www.blackicecomics.com or purchased at the door on the day of the event.
