Generous Local Support for Giving Tuesday

Preliminary results from the two largest Giving Tuesday campaigns in the Copper Country are positive.

At the Portage Health Foundation, Mike Babcock says the total easily surpassed the $100,000 match they had set up for the 15 organizations they were working with…

Babcock credits the organizations themselves for the drive’s success…

The beneficiaries of the Portage Health Foundation matching grant include the Swedetown Trails Club, Superior Search and Rescue, Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), Phoenix House, the Ontonagon County Cancer Society, Omega House, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, the Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Dial Help, Dan Schmitt Gift of Music, Copper Country Senior Meals, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter, the Baraga County Shelter Home, and 31 Backpacks.

Because donations passed the amount of the matching grant, the $100,000 from the Portage Heath Foundation will be prorated, based on the donations received by each of the groups.

A total will be released next week, after checks from donors arrive.

At Finlandia University, Marketing and Communications Director Olivia Myers says their drive also went well…

The money came from more than a hundred donors…

Finlandia benefited from a $20,000 matching grant offered by Board of Trustees President Julie Badel.

With some checks still to be received, expect a final tally next week.
