Girl Critically Hurt in Fall from Vehicle

A 17-year-old girl suffered critical injuries when she fell from a moving vehicle Friday in Hancock Township.

Houghton County Sheriff’s deputies say the incident took place along M-203 near Lily Pond Road, about a mile south of McLain State Park.

The girl had been a passenger in a southbound car driven by her 22-year-old boyfriend. He told officers that she had fallen out of the vehicle onto the roadway.

The boyfriend drove the girl to U.P. Health System-Portage, where she received emergency treatment for what the sheriff’s department described as “life threatening injuries.” She was later taken to a hospital in Ann Arbor for further specialty care.

The identities and hometowns of the driver and the victim have not been released.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Hancock City Police and Michigan Tech
Public safety.
