Governor Whitmer Extends Executive Orders

Governor Whitmer has been busy extending previous executive orders.

Yesterday, she extended her order, which limits places of public accommodation, meaning establishments such as theaters, gyms and barbershops, remain closed, while restaurants can continue serving take out and drive through, and delivery orders.

Establishments such as grocery stores and pharmacies remain open, but must continue to practice social distancing, and wearing masks is also required.

This order, along with the orders declaring states of emergency and disaster in the state, all now run through May 28th.

Representative Beau LaFave from the Upper Peninsula’s Iron Mountain, called on Governor Whitmer to restore non-emergency medical procedures to people, pets and livestock, stating the UP has a small number of COVID-19 cases, and their hospitals should be trusted to make the right decisions.

Governor Whitmer countered, saying the same rural districts with the low numbers of cases, also have the least equipped hospital systems to handle a surge.

Look for the struggle between the Governor and the legislature to continue.
