Governor Whitmer Signs Executive Order

Governor Whitmer has signed an Executive Order strengthening a previous order in terms of requiring Michiganders wear masks in indoor public places, as well as crowded outdoor places.

The new order clarified that if an unmasked customer enters a building, businesses shouldn’t automatically assume they cannot medically tolerate one, although they can take a verbal admission, if the customer gives one.

The new order also requires public safety officers to wear face coverings, unless it interferes with their job performance.

An interesting caveat to the order, is that masks will not be required at polling places, for the August 4th primary election.

Other exceptions to the mask rule include children 5 years and under, if you’re eating and drinking in a sit down restaurant, and exercising, or playing sports, and the mask would interfere.

Over the past two weeks, all but one region in the state, has seen a severe uptick in cases.

Research has suggested that people not wearing a mask or facial covering, is a big part of the rise in cases.

Katie Scott, vice president of the Michigan Nurses Association, said “Wearing a mask is a simple step that protects everyone.”

Whitmer went on to say “For the safety of our loved ones and our dedicated first responders on the front lines: mask up, Michigan!”
