Hancock Fielding Questions About Proposed Zoning Ordinance

As the Hancock city council considers final adoption of its new zoning ordinance, council members have been fielding questions from residents. At last night’s council meeting, many said those questions have focused on parking restrictions. City officials hope to add a Frequently Asked Questions page to the city’s website within the next few days.

A public hearing on the new rules will be held next Wednesday, and a special council meeting will follow, at which the new ordinance may be adopted.

The city is also planning to update fees and fines for tickets handed out by the police department. New forms will need to be ordered soon. A public hearing on that topic has been set for September 7. By that time, officials will have had a chance to compare the city’s current fines and fees with those of other, similar towns.

Hancock City Manager Mary Babcock will be one of the guests Sunday on Copper Country Today.
