Hancock School Board Update

Hancock is one of three area school districts who will continue to serve meals to students through the Summer.

This, from their monthly School Board Meeting last night.

They also announced the Hancock Public School Library will reopen to walk in traffic next Monday.

Interviews for a new head Hockey Coach will start this week as well.

Building projects in the district include the gymnasium floors of Barkell Elementary and Hancock High School to be sanded, repainted with new graphics and sealed starting tomorrow.

That project is expected to take two weeks.

Erico Electric was given the contract to upgrade the fire alarm system at Barkell Elementary.

The contract to upgrade the lighting system in all the district’s buildings, should be awarded at the next meeting.

Colton Salani was named “Male Athlete of the Year” and D’Andra Kero was named “Female Athlete of the Year.”

Resignations from Kristy Heinonen and Brian Irizarry were also regretfully accepted.

The board also brought on 11 new people, help with the meal program through the Summer.

The board also approved a $0.25 increase for lunches district wide, and approved this year’s membership in the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

A resolution in support of Federal COVID-19 Funding was also approved, with impending budget cuts from the state.
