Healthcare Open Enrollment Deadline Approaches

HOUGHTON, MI. — Thursday, December 15th marks an important deadline for those seeking health insurance through the Affordable Care Act’s Marketplace.  Although the Marketplace is open through January 31st, changes must be made Thursday, December 15th (11:59 p.m.) for them to go into effect January 1, 2017.

Enrollment and/or revision deadlines and the dates health coverage goes into effect are as follows:

January 16, 2017 through January 31, 2017March 1, 2017

Although open enrollment for the Marketplace closes January 31, 2017, special circumstances can allow qualified households to enroll or change their health coverage throughout the year. New enrollments and/or revisions submitted by the 15th of each month will go into effect the 1st day of the following month.

Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center (UGL) provides free in-person assistance to help individuals understand the range of affordable and accessible health insurance options. UGL’s certified application counselors (CAC) are available to help individuals find health insurance that meets their needs and fits their budgets. For assistance with renewing Marketplace plans or shopping for new coverage in Houghton, Keweenaw or Ontonagon Counties, call Clint Kyro at 906-281-0537, in Iron County call Iola Brubaker at 906-370-4075 or in Marquette or Menominee Counties call, Michaela McKeen at 906-235-1394.
