Heikinpäivä Parade Leads Full Day Of Events Saturday

Winter has returned just in time for Hancock’s midwinter festival.

Though there are activities throughout the month, Heikinpäivä is best known for its parade through downtown and games in the snow on the Quincy Green.

The Tori Market opens at the Finnish American Heritage Center tomorrow at 10am..with the parade stepping off at 11am, followed by the wife-carrying contest and kicksled races.

Center Director Jim Kurtti says there will be an extra surprise following the parade this year.

The Polar Bear Dive had to be cancelled due to unsafe ice conditions.

The day is capped off with a dance at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 7pm.

Heikinpäivä events continue into early February.
