Hirvonen Hall Dedication Tomorrow

Finlandia University will dedicate its newest building tomorrow.

The building itself isn’t new. It was built to serve as Hancock’s high school, following a fire that destroyed the previous school 100 years ago this coming Monday. It housed Hancock Central High until the new facility was built on Campus Drive, then continued as the Middle School until it also moved to Campus Drive.

In 2009, the school district turned the building and its Condon athletic complex over to the university, in exchange for free and reduced price tuition for Hancock graduates.

Finlandia has since renamed the building Hirvonen Hall. It houses the Hirvonen College of Health Sciences, along with an auditorium, and the university’s esports program.

Tomorrow’s schedule includes a photo of Hancock High School alumni at 10:30 – that’s part of this weekend’s Hancock All-School Reunion. The ribbon cutting at 11 will be followed by a brief history of the building, and an open house until 1.
