Houghton Considering Dog Park

A new dog park could be set up in central Houghton at the corner of Houghton Avenue and Quincy Street on the north side of the former high school site.

Townhomes are planned for the other side of the location and the owner of the property has agreed to lease a portion of the undeveloped side to the city for a temporary dog park.

The dog park would provide a place for people to bring their dogs and let them off the leash to run.

Fencing from the seawall at Kestner Park would be repurposed for the park, which would also include benches and waste containers.

The city will survey the residents who live within 300 feet of the park before deciding on moving forward on the project.

If approved, up to $7,500 would be used to buy posts and supplies, install the fence and buy signage for the park.
