Houghton County Below State Average For Census Self Response

It’s mid-June, and Houghton County is still behind the state average in terms of completing the 2020 Census form.

Currently, Houghton County has a self response rate of 52%, while the state sits at 68%.

Glenn Anderson, Chair of Houghton County’s Complete Count Committee.

Residents are reminded that funding for essential services such as snow removal, school bussing, law enforcement and fire departments for the next decade comes from the Census count, as does congressional representation.

Each person counted is worth approximately $20,000 in funding for the next 10 years.

Census workers have begun going door to door, but it will be possibly mid-July before that’s complete.

You can still go online to fill out the form. A link to do so is here
