Houghton County Undersheriff Thwarts Domestic Violence Incident

A Houghton County Undersheriff stopped a domestic violence incident.

In a press release late Friday, Sheriff Brian McLean relayed the story of undersheriff Kevin Coppo, who was on his way to work last Monday morning approximately 8:45am.

He was on Hancock Street, near Tezcuco Street, where he witnessed a male subject, close to a female subject, holding a baby.

The male subject pulled the female back, tearing off a necklace.

Undersheriff Coppo got out and protected the female and baby.

Hancock police responded, and eventually took the male subject into custody, after a brief struggle.

He is now housed in the Houghton County Jail, on Domestic Violence charges.

Sheriff Brian McLean said “All of our deputies and other departments police officers are always on watch, whether on or off duty.

They’re always willing to help people 24/7 which is a great asset to our community.”
