Houghton DPW Finishing Up Summer Projects

The Houghton Public Works Department is keeping busy.

Over the past two weeks, City Manager Eric Waara says the department has repaired water services in the city, road crews have paved over 230 tons of blacktop on Portage Street and laid 100 tons of road patch on city streets.

Waara also said that the Kestner Park bridge is near 80% complete and a connecting sidewalk has been installed within the last couple of days.

Winter sand is now at the garage and ready for use on the roadways, and the city has also decided to move its winter sidewalk equipment to a downtown facility where it will be used, making it easier for snow removal crews to access it.

Upcoming plans for next week include paving Calverley Street.
