Iron River Explosion Kills One

An explosion Saturday evening leveled a house in Iron River, killing at least one person.

Iron County sheriff’s deputies, Michigan State Police troopers, and first responders from Iron and Dickinson Counties were called out around 9:30 CST to 820 Cayuga Street. They found the residence badly damaged, with debris scattered as far as three blocks away.

A search revealed the body of an 80-year-old man, who officials say had just moved into the house from Florida. His identity has not been released.

While authorities do not suspect criminal activity at this time, the fire remains under investigation. The Iron River City Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Michigan State Police Fire Investigator.
