KBIC General Election Tomorrow

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community will hold its annual general election tomorrow.

Voters will be asked to choose two Tribal Council members from each district.

In alphabetical order, candidates in the L’Anse District are Donald Chosa Jr., Michael P. Lahti, Carole LaPointe, incumbent Rodney Loonsfoot, and Don Messer Jr. Baraga District candidates are Eddy Edwards, Jean Jokinen, incumbent Gary Loonsfoot Jr., and Jennifer Misegan.

All voters will cast ballots for Associate Judge, choosing between incumbent Violet Friisvall Ayres and challenger Tyler Larson.

There are also two proposals on the ballot. Proposal One asks if members who live off the reservation should be allowed to vote in Tribal elections. Proposal Two asks if voters support term limits for Tribal Council members.

Polls will be open between 10:00 and 6:00. Voters in the L’Anse District will cast ballots at the Zeba Community Hall. Voters in the Baraga District will vote at the Ojibwa Senior Citizens Center.
