Keweenaw Roller Girls Begin Season With Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Roller Derby is returning to the Copper Country as the Keweenaw Roller Girls get set to begin their 2018 home season.

They will have four home bouts this year at Dee Stadium in Houghton, with the first matchup against the Shipwreck Valley Rollers on May 5th.

The team is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that relies on volunteer help and community support.

They are hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser Saturday morning from 8am to noon at Houghton Elementary School.

Rowena Ragin’ Claw, otherwise known as Jenn Sams, says they rely on events like these as well as ticket sales and other fundraising activities.

“We also approach businesses in the community to see if any of them are willing to support us and many are. Often they’re very excited to see a sport like this growing in the community. We usually have one or two fundraisers a year and we sell merchandise at our bouts,” said Sams.

VIP Season tickets and individual tickets for the bout on May 5th are on sale.
