“Let Run” Order Continues Despite Milder Temps

Even with spring-like temperatures the last couple of days, residents at risk for having their pipes freeze up should still be letting their water run.

That was the message from Houghton City Manager Eric Waara Wednesday at the regular meeting of the city council.

The early spring thaw actually drives the frost deeper and just because the snow is melting on the surface, does not mean homeowners are out of danger.

Waara said there have been about 20 cases of homes with their pipes freezing in the city of Houghton.

If you are on the “Let Run” list, the city will contact you when it is safe to turn the faucet off.

Residents who are concerned about their pipes possibly freezing should first contact the city center at (906) 482-1700 and see if they should be allowed to let their water run.
