Local COVID-19 Cases Ease

COVID-19 cases dropped again in the Copper Country last week. Thirty-three confirmed cases were reported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties. That compares to 40 the previous week.

The CDC now lists all four counties as low-risk. Iron and Dickinson Counties, however, are designated as high-risk. Marquette County is listed as medium-risk.

Statewide, numbers edged up a bit. The average number of daily diagnoses last week was 2,086, compared to 1,799 in the previous week.

Actual infection rates are probably higher. Positive home test results are often not reported, and cases with mild or no symptoms may go undiagnosed. Even asymptomatic victims can still spread the virus to others.
