Local Human Services Expo To Be Held At Copper Country Mall

HOUGHTON, Mich. – More than 20 organizations are coming together in the Copper Country Mall commons area to share information with residents about important services and resources available locally.

The local Human Services EXPO takes place at the mall in Houghton on Tuesday, Oct. 24, from noon until 2 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with organizations and find out what services they provide to help residents of all ages live better. Some of the groups represented will have information about:  early childhood services; mental and physical health; dental care; emergency assistance; substance abuse prevention and support; domestic violence and sexual assault support; literacy and adult education; financial services, and more.

The first 200 attendees receive a complimentary lunch and a canvas bag. This free event is open to the public. The expo is sponsored by the Copper Country Human Services Coordinating Body (CCHSCB) and is one of the community’s largest gatherings of local service providers. Participating at the Expo are: Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital and Clinics; Baraga County Shelter Home; Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home; Copper Country Great Start Collaborative; Copper Country Homeless Prevention Coalition; Copper Country Mental Health; Dial Help; Early On; Great Lakes Recovery Centers; Houghton Keweenaw Communities that Care; Keweenaw Bay Indian Community; Keweenaw Family Resource Center; Lutheran Social Services; Michigan Department of Health and Human Services; Michigan Rehabilitation Services; Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency; Michigan Works!; Phoenix House; Salvation Army; Simple Kindness for Youth; Superior Alliance for Independent Living; Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center; UP Health System – Portage; U.P. Kids, U.S. Representative Jack Bergman; and Western Upper Peninsula Health Department.

The CCHSCB is a collaboration of more than 20 member organizations that provide hundreds of services to meet the needs of individuals, children and families in Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga counties.
