Mary Tuisku & Susan Burack Honored At Hancock Council Meeting

Prior to their regular meeting Wednesday, the Hancock City Council held a moment of silence in honor of Councilmember Mary Tuisku, who passed away Sunday.

Mary was also mayor from 1990-1995.  Current mayor Lisa McKenzie said people 100 years from now will still see the impact Mary had on the city.

Two of Mary’s recent objectives were to an update to the Title IX Ordinance (Fair Housing), which hadn’t been done since the 1980’s, and to honor Hancock resident Susan Burack with an Outstanding Service Award.

Both items were on the agenda.

Burack was recognized for her years of service in promoting recycling, placemaking and the arts.

To fill Mary’s seat, the city will accept applications for the at large position until June 7th.

The term runs until November 2018.
