Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources are in the process of updating their master plan for McLain State Park and they’re asking for the public’s input on their plans.
The DNR is going to display three master plan concepts they came up with for the park at an open house this Saturday.
Severe storms and erosion the last two years have forced the park to close some of its campsites.
DNR Public Information Officer John Pepin says they are trying to determine the best plan for the park moving forward.
“It’s very important that the public has a chance to weigh in on these master plans because it’s the public that enjoys the parks and they’re the ones who provide the visitation to the park,” said DNR Public Information Officer John Pepin. “Once the plan is approved, the first phase will be kicked in.”
Saturday’s open house is at the park pavilion from 10:00 a.m. until 4 p.m.
There will then be a 15-day public comment period that runs through August 27th.
