MDOT Lifts All Spring Weight Restrictions

Michigan’s Department of Transportation has lifted the Spring Weight Restrictions for the entire state, effective today.

State routes typically carry M, I or US designations.

Permits will still be needed for vehicles exceeding legal weight limits.

County road commissions and public works departments put their own weight restrictions in place, and they usually coincide with the state restrictions.

When routes have weight restrictions in effect, signs are usually posted.

All weight restrictions for the 2020 season are now finished.

The weight restrictions for the 2021 season will start next Spring.

*UPDATE* Weight Restrictions in Houghton, Baraga and Keweenaw Counties have not yet been lifted. The County Road Commissions for Houghton, Baraga, Keweenaw and Ontonagon Counties are meeting Monday, to decide when to start lifting restrictions.
