Michigan Department Of Corrections Tests Every Inmate For COVID-19

Michigan’s Department of Corrections has announced it has tested every single inmate in the state’s prison system.

MDOC Director Heidi Washington said the vast majority of prisoners who tested positive exhibited no symptoms, and made it more challenging to control the spread of the disease.

Michigan’s National Guard assisted with the testing, and in less than 15 days, tested every inmate in the state.

Of the 38,130 inmates tested, 3,263 tested positive, 18,316 tested negative and 16,551 are waiting for results, which should be back sometime this week.

All the inmates tested in the Western Upper Peninsula, came back negative.

The National Guard’s assistance also allowed MDOC employees to be tested as well.

So far, over 1,000 employees have been tested.
