Missing Boaters Found, Recovery Operations Still Underway

Missing Boat, truck and trailerThe Michigan State Police Calumet Post says the bodies of three missing boaters who left Chassell, MI for a fishing trip on Lake Superior and did not return on September 17th have been located. 

On Saturday, October 1st at approximate 12:45 p.m., the sunken boat was located using sonar by two non-profit/volunteer search and rescue organizations, Bruce’s Legacy from Black River Falls, WI. and Crossman Consulting of Duluth, MN.  

61 year old Keith Karvonen and 9 year old Ethan Chartre were located and recovered from Lake Superior. 

43 year Steven Chartre was also located and additional resources are en route to assist in the efforts to recover him. 

Bruce’s Legacy and Crossman Consulting were assisted in the recovery by the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police Calumet Post, Mercy Ambulance, and the Houghton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
