Missing St. Clair Man Found On Manitou Island

The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old Timothy Anderson of St.Clair was found around 11:00 am Thursday.

Anderson was reported missing from High Rock Bay in Keweenaw County by a U.S. Coast Guard search vessel.

He was found on Manitou Island about three miles east of High Rock Bay, where he reportedly set sail around 5:00 pm Wednesday headed for Copper Harbor.

Anderson was unable to complete the trip due to weather conditions and prevailing winds.

About 5:00 am Thursday, his 16 foot Starcraft sailboat washed up on the shore of Manitou Island.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter located him in good condition and transported him to the Houghton County Memorial Airport where he was met by family.

Participating in the search were the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
