Motorcyclists to Ride Against Domestic Abuse

Area motorcyclists will ride tonight to raise awareness about domestic violence.

The Ride Against Abuse will begin at 6:00 at the Calumet AmericInn. The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home sponsors the event. Executive Director Mary Niemela says she’s heartened by the turnout each year…

Anyone with a motorcycle is invited to join in. Riders are encouraged to wear something purple – the color of the fight against domestic abuse. There’s no charge to take part…

The ride will follow M-26 through Lake Linden and Dollar Bay to Hancock and Houghton, where it will end at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park.

Those who aren’t riding are encouraged to line up along the route with signs of support.

If you’re in an abusive relationship in Houghton, Keweenaw or Ontonagon Counties, you can call the Gundlach Shelter at 337-5623. In Baraga County, call the Baraga County Shelter Home at 524-7078.
