New Council Member Seguin Attends First Regular Hancock City Council Meeting

seguin-danielHancock resident Daniel Seguin is the newest member of the Hancock city council.

Seguin was elected last week and attended his first regular meeting of the council Wednesday night.

A Hancock resident since 2010, Seguin hopes to make a difference in the community he lives in

An Academic Advisor and Research Engineer in the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Michigan Tech, Seguin says he enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time at camp.

He reportedly came back from deer camp to take part in his first regular meeting. No word on whether he’s bagged his buck yet.

hancock-city-councilFollowing last week’s election, the Hancock City Council held a special organizational meeting where they reelected Lisa McKenzie as Mayor and Tim Belej as Mayor Pro-Tem.

Last night, the council agreed to advertise for the open Ward 3 position. No candidates appeared on the November ballot.

A resolution was passed honoring retired council member John Slivon for his 8 years of service on the council.

The council also expressed their appreciation to Greg Markkanen for his 8 months of service.

In other business, a show cause hearing was held for the property located at 730 Elm Street in Hancock. Following the hearing, the council determined that the house must be demolished or made safe.

Hancock is home to Finlandia University and the city comes in at number 76 in the country.
