Parade of Nations Takes Place Tomorrow

The diversity of the Michigan Tech campus and the surrounding community will be celebrated at tomorrow’s Parade of Nations.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Quincy Green. Floats, bands, dancers and marchers carrying banners and flags of more than 60 nations will travel through downtown Hancock, across the lift bridge through downtown Houghton to Dee Stadium.

At the Dee, international student organizations from MTU and Finlandia University will serve take-out portions of traditional food from their home countries.

This year’s parade marshal is International Neighbors, a local group that provides friendship and programs to help international newcomers acclimate to the Copper Country.

The parade will also feature a banner honoring Deb Mann, the community leader who died in a house explosion and fire on August 30. Mann was a long-time member of the Parade of Nations organizing committee.
