Parade Of Nations Winners Announced

Keweenaw Bay Indian Community’s float took first place for community floats in the 29th annual Parade of Nations on September 15.

The Bridging Communities float, built by Interact Clubs in Houghton-Portage Township and Hancock school districts, placed second in that category.

In the University floats category, Michigan Tech Indian Student Association placed first, and the Chinese Student/Scholar Association came in second.

First place floats in each category won $200; second place, $100.  Judges were Dillon Geshel, Sylvia Matthews and Kim Matson.

Local resident Christine Standridge won the Chicago getaway—everyone who made an I Love Parade of Nations sign and held it up during the parade received a ticket for the drawing, which took place at the multicultural festival.
