Parking Fines Raised In Houghton

Parking Fines in the City of Houghton are going up slightly.

The Houghton City Council approved the fine increase at their regular meeting Wednesday.

Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said they have seen a number of cases where people are parking illegally in the city instead of the campus of Michigan Tech, possibly because the fines in the city aren’t as severe.

The new fines are still below those from campus but it is hoped that the increase will reduce the number of violations.

The list of fines can be found on the City of Houghton’s website or by contacting the City Center at 906-482-1700.
