Petition To Dissolve Calumet Village Approved

The effort to dissolve the Village of Calumet is moving forward.

A petition calling for the dissolution of the village was submitted to Calumet Township on May 31st by Calumet Village residents Nathan Anderson, Barbara Yannatta and Village Trustee Peggy Germain.

The petition was reviewed and verified that it was signed by at least 15 percent of the registered electors in the village.

If the village is dissolved in the upcoming election, it would be absorbed by the township.

Unless the Village Council elects to set up a disincorporation commission, the question will be put before voters.

Residents in both the Village and the Township must vote in favor of the dissolution in their own elections for passage.
