Plenty Of Trails Open In The Keweenaw

Most snowmobile trails are open throughout the Keweenaw despite widespread damage to the trail system caused by the Father’s Day Flood.

Many would-be visitors are under the impression that snowmobile riding will be hampered this year due to trail closures but there are trails open from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor.

Closures include Trail 120 and 121 that goes around Freda, which will be closed for the season.

Trail #3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden will also not be reopened.  But you can still get to Dollar Bay by way of Hancock and to Lake Linden by way of Calumet.  There is also access to Lake Linden via the Dreamland trail starting in Dollar Bay.

Trail 133 is currently closed because the water holes are too deep but will reopen when the ground freezes. Trail 122 has now been opened.

Snowmobiles can also now cross the Portage Lake Lift Bridge using the crossing underneath.

Snowmobilers are asked to stay off the ice and to respect private property, as well to drive safely and not to remove or destroy signs on trails as they are there for safety reasons.
