Portage Township to Begin Marijuana Discussion

Portage Township will begin the process of considering whether to allow recreational marijuana sales and growth.

Like many municipalities in Michigan, the township originally opted out of the state’s marijuana program, until officials could review state rules. Those rules were posted a few weeks ago.

At last night’s board meeting, Scott Dianda from Tranquility Fields outlined their approach, using a self-contained building to grow and process plants. Supervisor Bruce Petersen said they’ll start a discussion about whether the township should opt back into the system.

The township has received its grant payment for the new restrooms at the Dodgeville Ice Rink. Some type of public dedication will likely be held once the rink is flooded and operating.
