Quincy Mine And Smelter Open For Guided Tours

Would you like to learn more about the Keweenaw’s copper mining legacy, which dates back to the 1800’s?

It just got easier, as the historic Quincy Mine and Quincy Smelter have reopened for guided tours.

Both are located north of Houghton, in the Keweenaw Peninsula, and would love for you to come for a guided tour.

Tours today will be unlike tours of the past, due to COVID-19 safety guidelines, but that doesn’t mean any less of an awesome experience.

The biggest change will be smaller groups, which means more time, with a guide.

The cogwheel tram is also out of service, so when you come for your tour, you’ll have to drive to an alternate location, to get to the East Adit entrance.

Mine tours must be booked in advance, while it’s not necessary to schedule a tour at the Smelter, which is open Monday through Saturday.

Tours at the Smelter are available at 11am, noon, 1pm and 2pm.
