Rebates Available at Appliance Recycling Events

UPPCO Appliance Recycling Events – Pictured above is just a fraction of the 484 appliances collected at the first UPPCO 2019 Appliance Recycling Event held in Escanaba, MI on May 10th and 11th. The collection of inefficient appliances at this successful event eliminated enough kilowatt-hours of energy consumption to power nearly 50 residential homes for a year.

The following press release was issued by UPPCO:

Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) customers can save money by participating in several appliance recycling events that are being planned for this summer.

UPPCO’s recycling program provides customers with the ability to drop-off any refrigerator, freezer, room A/C unit or dehumidifier that is intact for recycling at no cost to the customer (limit two of each appliance type per customer).

Customers can save up to $150 a year on their energy bills by simply removing older inefficient appliances from their home. Customers will receive a $50 rebate for each recycled refrigerator and freezer and a $10 rebate for room A/C units and dehumidifiers. Rebate checks will be mailed to participating customers approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the events.

“The first appliance recycling event was held in Escanaba,” according to Brett French, UPPCO’s Vice President of Business Development and Communications. “The event was a huge success for our customers and a big win for our communities and the environment. We collected 484 appliances eliminating ~278,301 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy consumption on an annual basis. That’s enough to power nearly 50 residential homes for a year.”

UPPCO’s next appliance recycling events will be held at Negaunee Iron & Metal on Friday, June 14th between the hours of 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM and Saturday, June 15th between the hours of 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Negaunee Iron & Metal is located in Negaunee at 34 Research Drive just off Co Rd 492. Additional events are being planned for the Houghton/Keweenaw area during the month of July.

“The appliances that are collected during these events are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner, keeping them out of our landfills,” said French. “Customers can RSVP for the Negaunee event by visiting www.EfficiencyUnited.com/arp.”
