Repairs To Be Done On Quincy Tram

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association is receiving a $200,000 loan from the USDA to repair the railroad tram.

The funds are part of the Community Facilities Direct Loan Program, which had its budget increased in the 2018 Omnibus bill from $200 million to $2.8 billion.

$2,3 million has been invested by USDA in rural Michigan communities.

The Quincy tram is one of more than 100 projects to receive funding.

The tram consists of 847 ties and track that were installed 13 years ago.

Since then, the ties have deteriorated and are affecting the structural integrity of the cog-wheel complex.

The tram ride down the hill to the mine is a part of the Quincy Mine Hoist Association tour.

The underground tour has 30,000 annual visitors.

The useful life of the replacement ties is expected to be 50 years.
