Safety Biggest Concern At Lake Superior Performance Rally

LSPR 2016 LogoThe Lake Superior Performance Rally takes place this weekend in the Copper Country.

There will be lots of opportunities for spectators to get up close and personal with the cars and their drivers.

Roughly 80 entries will be on display at the Country Inn & Suites in Houghton on Friday starting at noon.

The first car leaves at 1:20pm, with cars leaving at one-minute intervals, as they head to the 1st stage at the Houghton County Fairgrounds–another great opportunity to view the race.

The place to be Saturday morning is the L’Anse Waterfront where spectators can again get a close-up look beginning at 9:30am.

The final stage of the Rally takes place Saturday afternoon in Downtown Houghton.

A half mile street stage runs along Lakeshore Drive with plenty of places along the south side of the street and on the parking deck to get a great view.

Safety is the most important concern and barriers will be set up to keep people from heading out across the track.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara warns that if a race marshal throws a flag because a spectator crosses that barrier, that’s the end of the race.
