Search For Next Michigan Tech President Begins

The search for Michigan Tech’s next president is now underway.

Members of the presidential search committee were announced by the Board of Trustees Friday.

The announcement follows the decision by current President Glenn Mroz not to renew his contract and to return to his tenured professor position following the 2017-2018 academic year.

It was important to include a diverse range of committee members to encompass the needs of the entire student population.

MTU Chair of the Board of Trustees Terry Woychowski said, “It was quite difficult to go through all the nominees, but ultimately, we were able to field, I think, a fantastic committee here to take this forward.”

The committee will begin looking over potential candidates, searching for the best fit for the university.

Woychowski said, “It’s really important that, for a new president, to come in with an understanding of Michigan Tech — who we are, what is our brand, what do we mean.”

One of the first things the committee will do is select a presidential search firm with a goal to provide a list of candidates by February.

At a special meeting on Friday, June 2, the Michigan Technological University Board of Trustees unanimously appointed members of a Presidential Search Committee. The 14-member committee will review candidates for a president to succeed Glenn Mroz when he returns to the faculty at the end of June 2018.
