Sears Hometown Store Closing Confirmed

Officials with the Sears Hometown Store chain have confirmed the permanent closing of the Houghton location.

Stores in Escanaba, Sault Ste. Marie and Ionia will also be shuttered in Michigan, with around 100 more closing their doors across the nation.

Management of the local outlet had recently been taken over by corporate officials, and a liquidation is in process.

The latest round of closings will reduce the number of Sears Hometown stores nationwide by about half.

It’s the latest cutback by the parent company, Transformco, which also operates Sears and KMart department stores. Only three KMart stores remain open in the continental U.S., and fewer than two dozen full-sized Sears outlets.
