Sheriff Officially Notifies County Again Of Continued Jail Overcrowding

Overcrowding at the Houghton County Jail has led to the sheriff once again invoking the Emergency Powers Act.

Sheriff Brian McLean has advised county officials that the jail has remained at full or above capacity for the entire first week of April.

The notification follows the County Jail Overcrowding State of Emergency Act of 1982.

McLean said the population at the jail is a bit lower than the first few months of this year, but still remains at 100 percent capacity or more.
