Soldano, DePerno Campaign in Houghton

Matt DePerno at Houghton rally

Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Garrett Soldano and Attorney General endorsee Matt DePerno brought their campaigns to the Copper Country Sunday.

At a joint appearance at the Mine Shaft Entertainment Center, they spoke to about 70 supporters.

The themes were familiar. Both assailed Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s policy during the pandemic. Both continued the still-unsupported allegations of massive fraud in the 2020 election, with Soldano stating…

That’s my job in the State of Michigan, is to give this state to President Trump, who is still my president.

Soldano teed off on plans to convert to electric vehicles…

Nuclear and gas, those are the only long-term energy solutions that we have that we need to invest in.

He ripped the state’s K-12 education system…

We have a teacher union problem. An administration problem.

Saldano promised to bring more transparency to state government…

We’re going to expedite FOIA requests for the executive and legislative branches. You deserve to know what’s going on behind those doors. We’re going to find out who’s lobbying who.

Deperno took aim at vaccine mandates…

The Democrats had their own state convention at the beginning of April. What do you think they required? Vaccine mandates to vote.

He came down hard on critical race theory…

Teaching our kids this garbage doesn’t help advance our cause in this state to increase our population and keep jobs here.

But, while Saldano claimed he’s now the front-runner in the race, it’s Dixon who’s been gaining traction. Last week, she became the only one of the five remaining GOP candidates to earn an endorsement from Michigan Right to Life. She had earlier been endorsed by the influential DeVos family, and is supported by Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey.
