State Fire Marshal’s Office Contacted For Fire Investigation

The investigation continues into the cause of a fire early Monday morning in Lake Linden.  The Lake Linden Police Department says the fire started at the Gilles Apartment building on Second Street around 5:15am.  The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal’s office has been contacted for assistance in investigating the fire.

Police believe the fire started in a second floor apartment.  Three people jumped from a second story bedroom window to escape and were taken to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.  Two other apartment residents and a Lake Linden fireman were treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.  All of the individuals were treated and released.

The American Red Cross was on hand to help residents who were displaced by the fire.  A temporary shelter and meeting place was set up for the Red Cross, Law Enforcement, and those affected by the fire at 120 Calumet Street by Richard and Kim Rak.

The Lake Linden Fire Department was assisted by the Bootjack Fire Department and First Responders, Hubbell Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department, and the Laurium Fire Department.
